What is the best ballast for this light bulb?

    • Q:

This bulb is rated to have 5500 lumens at 85 watts. If two of these are being powered by a ballast that has an input watt rating of 136 watts ( Howard Lighting - E2/72RS-120R) each will get 68 watts. Does this cause the light to produce lower lumens? If not what effect will the lower input wattage have on the bulb?

        A:

The Howard ballast referenced has a ballast factor of .89 for two F72T12/HO bulbs. This will reduce the mean lumens for each bulb to 4,895 or 72 mean system lumens per watt.
