      Can this bulb be used with a timer - as on a post lamp? Someone wrote a review of a Phillips brand bulb of this nature, and said it burned out more quickly than expected and may have caused the timer itself to fail.

        As mentioned in the description, CFL bulbs are not meant for use with control devices such as dimmers. This would also apply to use with a timer. Yes, it will most likely reduce the life of the bulb and possibly cause failure in the timer itself.
