Why Recycle Lamps & Ballasts?  |   How Our Program Works  |   The Lamp Recycling Process  |   EPA Guidelines

Lamps
  • Mercury is a toxic metal which is hazardous to both the environment and human health.
  • Just one ounce of mercury contaminates a lake for centuries
  • 100 fluorescent lamps contain about 4 grams of mercury
  • Lamp components can be separated, cleaned and reused.
  • Universal waste regulations ban municipal landfill and require proper management of the lamps through either recycling or hazardous waste landfill.
  • Failure to manage the lamps properly could result in a violation and fine.
  • Recycling minimizes liability.
  • Recycling is the preferred option for the long-term preservation of the environment
  • Lamps that contain mercury include the following:
  • Fluorescent
  • Compact Fluorescent
  • Mercury Vapor
  • Metal Halide
  • High Pressure Sodium
  • Neon
  • Arc
