Q & A

MaxLite Brand G40 DIMMABLE 15 watt LED bulb generates as much light as many 90 watt halogen bulbs.

  • No lead or mercury means easy and environmentally safe disposal
  • 900 Lumens saves 76 watts in electricity
  • VERY long life - rated to still put out 70% as much light after 25,000 hours of operation as it does when brand new

Not recommended for use in fully enclosed fixtures because heat buildup will shorten life. Do not “hot swap” this bulb. Turn off fixture before replacing existing bulb.

Used in a fixture hanging over a dining table. Bulb is base-up but there is space around the base and vent holes so it doesn't get hot. Light is shining down on the table and seems to be uniform (no dark areas as with some LEDs). I'll have to get back to you in 10 or 12 years to comment on the life of the bulb.

Comments about MaxLite 90 Watt Replacement, 15 Watt, 120 Volt, Dimmable, LED G-40 Lamp:

I have an overhead kitchen fixture that requires two bulbs of this style and size. I had a poor experience with comparable CFLs, which didn't last long. Incandescent bulbs used too much energy and were very hot, an extra drawback in the kitchen.

These bulbs are attractive in the open fixture, very bright, have low energy consumption, and are relatively cool. If they last as long as advertised, I will be very pleased.

I placed these globes in the kitchen as well as my closet where they replace incandescent globe bulbs. These are equally bright as the incandescent bulbs and I anticipate a long life with reduced energy costs.

Very high quality looking bulb. Cooling fins on base are a bit too industrial looking for areas other than the kitchen. Light quality, regardless of the color temperature rating, is very clinical and anti-septic. Excellent illumination for work areas in a kitchen or perhaps in a workshop area, but not the ideal color temperature for a relaxing area like a living room or bedroom. Dimming the bulb makes it a bit better, but then you lose the illuminating power. Better to use it in the kitchen where it provides a very bright, even lighting without being too intense or florescent.

I brought two of these to replace CFL bulbs that did not dim and took several seconds to come to full brightness when turned on. They are the perfect size and shape for my overhead kitchen fixtures and a warmer light than the CFLs.

LED versions of specialty bulbs can be tough to find, so I was really glad to find this for our dining room, to replace a 150W incandescent. It's really bright, dims just fine and looks great. The heat dissipation fins hide on the base and are invisible, not casting a shadow on the shade. Can't yet speak to reliability, but so far I love it!

                    A:

LED lamps work very well in colder temperatures. Providing they are protected from weather elements (as you stated) and not used within a fully enclosed fixture, they will work perfectly.
