Bulb Shape

The description of the general appearance of a lamp/bulb consists of a letter(s) followed by a number. The letter indicates the shape of the bulb and the number relates to the diameter of the bulb in eighths of an inch. For example, a common household bulb is the A-19. The bulb is "A" shape and the diameter would be nineteen 8ths of an inch, or 2 3/8".

CRI

Color Rendering Index is an international system used to rate a lamp's ability to render object colors. The higher the CRI (based upon a 0-100 scale) the richer and more accurately colors generally appear. CRI differences among lamps are not usually visible to the eye unless the difference is more than 3-5 points.

CRI

Color Temperature (Kelvin)

An expression of the hue of the light emitted, measured in degrees Kelvin. Usually expressed by a four digit number followed by (k), such as 2700k. Higher temperatures indicate whiter, "cooler" colors, while lower temperatures indicate yellower, "warmer" colors. Some common Kelvin temperature benchmarks are 2700k (warm white), 3500k (neutral white), 4100k (cool white), 5000k (bright white), and 6500k (daylight).

Brightness (Lumens)

A rating of the initial light output of a bulb, rated after 100 hrs of operation. Lumens are a measure of how much light falls on one square foot of area, one foot away from the light source.

Average Rated Life (hr)

A measurement of the average length of time, between first use and the point when 50% of the lamps tested have stopped functioning, , using an operating cycle of 3 hours on, 20 minutes off.

Average Rated Life (hr)
20000

Length (in)

Also referred to as "Maximum Overall Length" (MOL). For light bulbs, it measures the length of a light bulb, from the top of the bulb to the bottom of the base or pins and is typically expressed in inches. For light fixtures and ballasts, it applies to the total horizontal length of the item.

Good Bulbs

The visible light is just as much as the 40 watt T12. We are swapping all our 40w bulbs out for the 34w. Did not change the brightness of the room and we could potentially save ALOT in energy costs. But they work just as good as the expensive Brands and higher CRI ratings. Can't tell a difference with my eyes.

I use it for the lighting in my basement. The power used or lack of it is great. The lighting is not that bright, but that's not really a bad thing.

Is this bulb envirnmentaly friendly? Can you dispose of in the trash?

mudcatking

This product does contain mercury. While the mercury content is less than most fluorescent tubes, the bulb should be disposed of according to your state's guidelines for hazardous materials. Please see the following link for more information. http://www.bulbs.com/learning/mercurylegislation.aspx

On the box, it says you need to use a ballast made for 34 watts, as opposed to the standard 40 watt tubes that usually go in the fixture. How important is that? I'm replacing a bunch of 40-watt tubes plugged into what I assume are standard ballasts.

Depending on how old the ballast is or the last time it was replaced, it is possible that the ballast will be able to operate the 34-watt bulb. We would recommend checking the ballast to see what types of lamps can be used with it. These should appear on the ballast label. If it does not list the 34-watt bulb, then the ballast should be replaced.

This bulb has an average rated life of 20,000 hours.

Product Support

are these lights ok for kitchen use?

J.P.

These bulbs can be used in a kitchen. The cool white color that the bulb emits will provide enough light for performing kitchen tasks. It is advisable to use these in covered fixtures, although not necessary.

I want to know the specification of this bulb. Would you please provide me a luminous intensity(cd) and illuminance(lx)? thanks you

JeHwan Lee

The lumens for this bulb are 2,650 (Initial) and 2,300 (mean). The lumens may be altered depending on the ballast factor of the ballast being used. The illuminance (lx) is determined based on the size of the room and the lumens. Since Lux is part of the metric system, the room will have to be measured to determine the square meters. Once the square meters are determined, divide those by the lumens. This will give the amount of Lux per square meter. The luminous intensity (cd) is not easily determined. There are many factors involved but the most important is the type of fixture the bulb is in and how much of the light output is being directed to a specific area or work plane.
