Volts

A measure of "electrical pressure" between two points. The voltage specification of an incandescent lamp is the electrical "pressure" required to drive it at its designed point. The "voltage" of a ballast (e.g. 120 V) refers to the line voltage coming from the power source and is connected to the ballast.

Bulb Shape

The description of the general appearance of a lamp/bulb consists of a letter(s) followed by a number. The letter indicates the shape of the bulb and the number relates to the diameter of the bulb in eighths of an inch. For example, a common household bulb is the A-19. The bulb is "A" shape and the diameter would be nineteen 8ths of an inch, or 2 3/8".

An expression of the hue of the light emitted, measured in degrees Kelvin. Usually expressed by a four digit number followed by (k), such as 2700k. Higher temperatures indicate whiter, "cooler" colors, while lower temperatures indicate yellower, "warmer" colors. Some common Kelvin temperature benchmarks are 2700k (warm white), 3500k (neutral white), 4100k (cool white), 5000k (bright white), and 6500k (daylight).

Q & A
What does the br's stand for in lighting . Like br 20 & br 30 . Is the higher the number mean the hotter the temp of the fixture can handle ?

Fred

The 'BR' refers to the shape of the bulb and stands for Bulged Reflector. The number refers to the diameter of the reflector. A lot of lighting uses the rule of 8- divide the number after the BR by 8 and you'll have the bulb diameter. A BR30 has a 3.75" diameter.

Question has been asked previously if the bulb works with a dimmer switch and the answer was yes. Does this mean the bulb is dimmable? Just because it "works" on a dimmer switch does not mean that it is a dimmable bulb.

BT

Yes, all incandescent bulbs are dimmable.

Anonymous

is there an LED equivalent/replacement to this bulb?

Joe

Yes, we carry a number of BR30 LED replacement bulbs. Here are some that would work well as replacements. http://www.bulbs.com/LED_Bulbs/BR30/Warm_White-Bulb_Color/results.aspx Please contact one of our certified Lighting Specialists at 888-455-2800 if you need further assistance in replacing your incandescent BR30.

do you have this bulb in an 85w duramax philips bulb. I cannot find it anywhere and this bulb is the only one that is good for me in my kitchen it is also a br30 but in an 85w how much would it be and what would i be charged for shipping? thank you Pat

pat

The 85 watt version of this bulb has been discontinued due to government legislation aimed at improving energy efficiency. The 65 watt bulbs are the highest wattage incandescent available in this size and shape. There are some compact fluorescent lamps available in a similar size and shape that are equivalent to a 75 watt incandescent bulb. There are also halogen bulbs available that will use less energy but have a brighter light output. See the attached link to view those items. http://www.bulbs.com/Halogen_Reflector/results.aspx?No=0
