Volts

A measure of "electrical pressure" between two points. The voltage specification of an incandescent lamp is the electrical "pressure" required to drive it at its designed point. The "voltage" of a ballast (e.g. 120 V) refers to the line voltage coming from the power source and is connected to the ballast.

Bulb Shape

The description of the general appearance of a lamp/bulb consists of a letter(s) followed by a number. The letter indicates the shape of the bulb and the number relates to the diameter of the bulb in eighths of an inch. For example, a common household bulb is the A-19. The bulb is "A" shape and the diameter would be nineteen 8ths of an inch, or 2 3/8".

Color Rendering Index is an international system used to rate a lamp's ability to render object colors. CRI differences among lamps are not usually visible to the eye unless the difference is more than 3-5 points.

Some common Kelvin temperature benchmarks are 2700k (warm white), 3500k (neutral white), 4100k (cool white), 5000k (bright white), and 6500k (daylight).

Q & A

TCP brand 23 Watt compact fluorescent reflector lamp. R40 size and shape replaces 125 Watt BR40 lamp and fits into the larger recessed lighting fixtures sometimes used in both homes and businesses. Warm white color and high color rendering mean you'll never know the difference, at least until you get your electric bill.

  • Outstanding energy efficiency - provides equivalent light to most 125 Watt incandescent BR40 lamps while using only 23 Watts of electricity

  • Outstanding life - 8,000 hour rated life is four to eight times as long as most incandescent lamps

  • Outstanding value - replace your existing lamps with more energy efficient technology, at a competitive price

NOT RECOMMENDED for use in enclosed fixtures or for use with control devices such as sensors or dimmers, may shorten lamp life

Comments about TCP 125 Watt Incandescent Equivalent, 23 Watt, R40 Warm White Compact Fluorescent Medium Base Bulb:

I purchased 15 of these needing 13 and figured on 2 spares. The installation was in recessed cans of a 19 foot high ceiling. One burned out within 2 days of installation. Difficult to replace to say the least! Very disappointed since I will probably experience more burnouts long before the advertised life.
