The description of the general appearance of a lamp/bulb consists of a letter(s) followed by a number. The letter indicates the shape of the bulb and the number relates to the diameter of the bulb in eighths of an inch. For example, a common household bulb is the A-19. The bulb is "A" shape and the diameter would be nineteen 8ths of an inch, or 2 3/8".

Comments about Halco Lighting 15 Watt, 130 Volt A15 Incandescent Bulb:

I have a house built in 1960 that has a valance around the entire living room and another valance around the entire family room in the basement. There are light sockets spaced about a foot apart behind the valances and each bank is controlled by a dimmer. The living room has 45 bulbs in the string and the family room 51. Essentially a rather large, indirect lighting system.

The spacing between the sockets and the valance is pretty tight so I can only use a bulb 3 1/2 inches long. I've been using 15 watt bulbs in a futile attempt to save energy. While the 15 watts bulbs are adequate for lighting, their lifetime is somewhat of a joke. There is no way I'm getting anywhere near the number of hours these bulbs are suppose to deliver.

It's a good thing these are cheap as I go through a lot of them every month. I've tried the more expensive brands of 15 watt bulbs but don't see any improvement in their lifetime either.
