Volts

A measure of "electrical pressure" between two points. The voltage specification of an incandescent lamp is the electrical "pressure" required to drive it at its designed point. The "voltage" of a ballast (e.g. 120 V) refers to the line voltage coming from the power source and is connected to the ballast.

Bulb Shape

The description of the general appearance of a lamp/bulb consists of a letter(s) followed by a number. The letter indicates the shape of the bulb and the number relates to the diameter of the bulb in eighths of an inch. For example, a common household bulb is the A-19. The bulb is "A" shape and the diameter would be nineteen 8ths of an inch, or 2 3/8".

CRI

Color Rendering Index is an international system used to rate a lamp's ability to render object colors. The higher the CRI (based upon a 0-100 scale) the richer and more accurately colors generally appear. CRI differences among lamps are not usually visible to the eye unless the difference is more than 3-5 points.

Color Temperature (Kelvin)

An expression of the hue of the light emitted, measured in degrees Kelvin. Usually expressed by a four digit number followed by (k), such as 2700k. Higher temperatures indicate whiter, "cooler" colors, while lower temperatures indicate yellower, "warmer" colors. Some common Kelvin temperature benchmarks are 2700k (warm white), 3500k (neutral white), 4100k (cool white), 5000k (bright white), and 6500k (daylight).

I was reluctant to purchase energy efficient bulbs. I thought they would not give off the light I needed in my kitchen. I also assumed they would be too expensive and ugly looking!
I was wrong on all counts!
These bulbs are amazing AND they run cool to the touch which is the BEST reason for me to use them here in hot and humid southwest Florida. My A/C won't have to work as hard!

Comments about MaxLite 125 Watt Incandescent Equivalent, 23 Watt, R40 Bright White Compact Fluorescent Medium Base Bulb:

The bulb doesn't turn on when others do. It is powered through a timer. The box says that it won't work through a timer or other control device... But that wasn't disclosed on the website when I purchased the bulbs. How silly is that that it won't work with a timer!

I purchased 2 of them. One is put in living room and another in other room.
It is very much bright to read books.
I will buy a little lower watt product for small room and bath room too.
              Thanks for your supply.

I am not sure that the statement that color temperature has nothing to do with light output is of practical use. I have the 2700K version of this bulb and people had trouble reading in the room – with half of the bulbs switched to 5000K it is much brighter and people have no trouble reading.

                    A:

This product has a reliable operating temperature range of 0º to 100º Fahrenheit. The product can be used outdoors but needs to be in a protected area and not exposed to the elements. If used in temperatures other than what is rated, the life and performance of the bulb may be affected.

These bulbs will be used in porcelain ceiling fixtures mounted 9' above the floor on a 12' o.c. pattern. What is the beam angle for this lamp?

                  • CUSTOMER CARE

                    A:

The beam spread or angle is not easily determined for the compact fluorescent reflectors. The light source for the compact fluorescents is larger than a halogen or incandescent reflector. This makes it difficult to control or focus the light to provide various beam spreads/angles. They generally will be flood lights and can vary from narrow (25-30°) to wide (50-60°) floods depending on how far up they are in the fixture.

                  • CUSTOMER CARE

                    A:

These bulbs can be used in recessed lights provided there is some ventilation to allow the heat to dissipate. If heat builds up in the fixture it can affect the life of the bulb.
