Volts

A measure of "electrical pressure" between two points. The voltage specification of an incandescent lamp is the electrical "pressure" required to drive it at its designed point. The "voltage" of a ballast (e.g. 120 V) refers to the line voltage coming from the power source and is connected to the ballast.

Bulb Shape

The description of the general appearance of a lamp/bulb consists of a letter(s) followed by a number. The letter indicates the shape of the bulb and the number relates to the diameter of the bulb in eighths of an inch. For example, a common household bulb is the A-19. The bulb is "A" shape and the diameter would be nineteen 8ths of an inch, or 2 3/8".

An expression of the hue of the light emitted, measured in degrees Kelvin. Usually expressed by a four digit number followed by (k), such as 2700k. Higher temperatures indicate whiter, "cooler" colors, while lower temperatures indicate yellower, "warmer" colors. Some common Kelvin temperature benchmarks are 2700k (warm white), 3500k (neutral white), 4100k (cool white), 5000k (bright white), and 6500k (daylight).

Q & A

Overdrive brand 11 Watt compact fluorescent reflector lamp. JDR size and shape with GU10 base replaces 35 Watt MR16 lamp.  Warm white color and high color rendering mean you'll never know the difference, at least until you get your electric bill.

  • Outstanding energy efficiency - provides equivalent light to most 35 Watt halogen MR16 lamps while using only 11 Watts of electricity

  • Outstanding life - 10,000 hour rated life is five to six times as long as most halogen lamps

  • Outstanding value - replace your existing lamps with more energy efficient technology, at a competitive price

NOT RECOMMENDED for use in enclosed fixtures or for use with control devices such as sensors or dimmers, may shorten lamp life

Comments about Overdrive 35W Incandescent Equivalent 11 Watt, JDR CFL Lamp with GU10 Base:

These are replacements for halogen bulbs. I couldn't stand the heat from the other bulbs. These are a lot cooler. The only downside is that they take about 2 minutes to get to full brightness.

Comments about Overdrive 35W Incandescent Equivalent 11 Watt, JDR CFL Lamp with GU10 Base:

These bulbs are a bit longer than the bulbs they are replacing in a track-lighting system. They protrude from the holder but my fixture is modern looking so it doesn't actually look bad. The only downside to these bulbs is that they need to warm up. When I first turn them on, they're at about 15% brightness. It'll take a good 30-60 seconds before these fully shine. Once they do, they're great. The color is very warm and the spread is great. My wife didn't even notice the difference from the incandescence they replaced, and run A LOT cooler with less wattage which is awesome.

Normally I'd give these 3 stars but since a low-wattage GU10 base bulb are SO hard to find, and LED versions cost $50-$100 each, these are an excellent replacement for relatively small price difference.

      • Q:

What is the beam spread of the bulb and why it is not stated as it is stated for LED and halogen bulbs just to get a rough idea.

          A:

There is no beam spread listed by the manufacturer. The reflector contains a spiral compact fluorescent and it is very difficult to control or direct the light output. Most compact fluorescent reflectors are considered floods and can range anywhere from 50 to 60 degrees (or wider) depending on the size of the reflector and/or the type of fixture it is used in.

I would like to know the difference between the product 1 and product 2 as below, particularly in its dimensions,

        Product - 2:

          A:

The bulbs are similar in many aspects, such as dimensions and average rated life. They are different brands. One is Overdrive. The other we list as Value Brand, since we do not have any history with the manufacturer. The packaging on the Value Brand product listed the light output much higher than the Overdrive however; we did a side-by-side comparison and the light output was similar.
