Volts

A measure of "electrical pressure" between two points. The voltage specification of an incandescent lamp is the electrical "pressure" required to drive it at its designed point. The "voltage" of a ballast (e.g. 120 V) refers to the line voltage coming from the power source and is connected to the ballast.

Bulb Shape

The description of the general appearance of a lamp/bulb consists of a letter(s) followed by a number. The letter indicates the shape of the bulb and the number relates to the diameter of the bulb in eighths of an inch. For example, a common household bulb is the A-19. The bulb is "A" shape and the diameter would be nineteen 8ths of an inch, or 2 3/8".

Q & A

Bulbrite brand 20 Watt halogen capsules. JCD type, 120 volts for line voltage systems. Line voltage means no need for a transformer, and less energy lost as heat.

  • Halogen lamps provide brighter, whiter light than incandescent bulbs, while maintaining outstanding color rendering

  • Perfect for undercabinet and accent lighting

DOUBLE CHECK the distance separating the two pins on your existing lamp.  They come in different sizes and if the pins do not match up correctly, the capsule will not fit properly.  Distance between pin tips for this version is 8mm (0.31")

These bulbs are in my unheated garage and light up the utility area near my hot water tank and water sprinkling system. They work well for their intended use and have been very cost effective compared to similar bulbs I was purchasing from large construction stores in Las Vegas.

I had been looking for these bulbs for quite some time. They apparently aren't common enough to be found in a [...] or [...]. The halogen bulbs are confusing, as there are a lot of different shapes and sizes and base sizes. I think Bulbs.com has every option. I had bought several incorrect bulbs for $5 to $6, so I'm glad I finally found the correct ones.

Comments about Bulbrite 20 Watt, 120 Volt T4 Clear Halogen 8mm Bi-Pin Bulb:

I have been looking for these bulbs for about three years and was just about ready to give up in despair when I found this website. The staff, especially Stephanie Blondin, were amazingly helpful and I shall now order these bulbs in bulk (lifetime supply). Stephanie told me that the base GY8 should be completely interchangeable with G8, and she was absolutely right. The bulbs work perfectly. My main problem was finding bulbs of the right length. The T4 designation refers to the shape of the bulb. The length of these bulbs in inches is 3 and 5/16ths.

How do I check the distance between pins on 20 watt bulbs?? There are no markings on the bulbs on my accent light fixture.

                    A:

The distance between the pins is measured in millimeters. This particular bulb has a GY8 base so the pins would be 8mm apart. There are different base types for these types of halogens. The base types depend on the wattage and voltage of the bulb. If the current bulbs have a different measurement than 8mm, we would recommend checking the fixture to see if they list the wattage or type of bulb needed.
